“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits” Psa. 103:2.
Forgetting is a common human trait, yet in spiritual matters, it can lead to severe consequences when we forget what should be kept to heart. The Bible frequently warns us about the danger of forgetting God and His works. When we forget God’s blessings, His commandments, or His faithfulness, we are likely to drift into disobedience, pride, and complacency. These days in the ingratitude of men, they tend to take credit for the benefits of the Lord. You must always remember that there are people who have what you have – intelligence, connections, etc. – and did what you did but got a different result.
Give thanks to the Lord. The benefits of the Lord are not your rights; they’re His kindnesses, gifts, and favour towards you. You must set a reminder in your heart never to forget His benefits. It's in never forgetting and acknowledging Him for these benefits that you qualify for more. Forgetting is grievous, yes you heard me. It's so easy to become distracted by some of the things and achievements that have come your way such that you become carried away by sense knowledge and the praises of men such that God is worth nothing before you anymore.
Religious piety is now seen as fanaticism, while being apathetic is celebrated as being reasonable. Every knowledge that doesn't retain God is debasing, don't embrace such. Remembering the benefits of the Lord, despite your challenges leaves the adversary perplexed. They’re surprised you’re still standing; they’re shocked that you’re not downcast in spite of everything they’ve thrown at you. They’re worried that you’ve chosen not to fear but stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. God always rewards faith in Him. He is the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. When you hold unto Him in faith, remembering His goodness and kindnesses in the past and confessing His salvation now, He won’t fail you.
