“Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].” Eph. 4:27. Amp.C.

A pastor once gave a sermon illustration to his congregation of the need for total commitment to Christ. His parable: A certain man wanted to sell his house for $2,000. Another man wanted very badly to buy it, but because he was poor, he couldn't afford the full price. After much bargaining, the owner agreed to sell the house for half the original price with just one stipulation: He would retain ownership of one small nail protruding from just over the door. After several years, the original owner wanted the house back, but the new owner was unwilling to sell. So the first owner went out, found the carcass of a dead dog, and hung it from the single nail he still owned. Soon the house became unlivable, and the family was forced to sell the house to the owner of the nail.

The pastor's conclusion: "If we leave the Devil with even one small peg in our life, he will return to hang his rotting garbage on it, making it unfit for Christ's habitation. We must preserve our vessels in holiness. We must guard our lives from the encroachment of the little foxes that can spoil our vine. Some of us will feign ignorance of what the little foxes are or symbolises in our lives. You see that Irritability, impatience, impulsive speech, unkind words, outbursts of anger, and a critical spirit are some of “the little foxes'' which you have allowed Satan to hang around you life like the dead stinking sheep in our story.

It's so easy to resist the devil if you are a sincere believer who has submitted yourself to the governance of God's word. There can never be a victorious Christian experience without proper consumption, saturation and practice of God's word in its pure and accurate state, because God's word can be diluted or compromised. You must learn how to follow the promptings and leading of the Holy Spirit. You must learn how to pray on the spirit and understanding. You must know how to fast, where and when necessary. You must study God's Word, worship the Lord, standing your ground once the issue negates the word of God. There is no other way to kick the devil out of your space than that. May you always get the victory over every temptation and spiritual attacks in Jesus name, amen.
