“Wisdom is supreme—so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; if you embrace her, she will honor you. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.” prov. 4:7-9.

In 1799, twelve-year-old Conrad Reed, skipping Sunday School to go fishing.

While standing by the creek, Conrad saw a yellow substance shining in the water. He retrieved it and found it to be some type of metallic seventeen, pound rock. Unable to identify it, immediately his family employed it as a doorstop. Not knowing what it was made of, his family used it as a  doorstop for three years. In 1802, his father, John Reed, took it to a jeweler who identified it as a lump of gold worth about $3,600. That lump of gold, which was used as a doorstop for three years in North Carolina, is one of the biggest gold nuggets ever found. His discovery triggered America’s first gold rush.

Ignorance is quite a dangerous possession. In its simplest form, it's the lack of knowledge or information about something. It can also refer to a state of being unaware or uninformed. Essentially, it means not knowing what you should know. Spiritual ignorance on the other hand refers to lack of understanding or awareness of spiritual truths, principles, and realities, particularly concerning one's relationship with God and the ability to live according to His will. It's not merely a lack of intellectual knowledge but can stem from a hardened heart, pride, or even deliberate avoidance of spiritual truths.

To overcome spiritual ignorance, you must actively pursue knowledge, you must engage with spiritual teachings, and cultivate a teachable spirit. This involves seeking wisdom from God, studying scripture, and participating in fellowship with other believers. In our story, for three years, they had gold but lived in penury. It took visiting a jeweller to find a solution to their ignorance. Praying alone, without seeking spiritual knowledge and wisdom can't solve the problem of ignorance. If you want to change so much, you must pursue spiritual knowledge, pursue spiritual wisdom and understanding with the whole of your being, until you exemplify appropriateness as a believer. God bless you.
