“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John. 4:10.

A man and a woman met at a well on a hot afternoon in Samaria. We don’t know the woman’s name. The man was Jesus. Their brief conversation changed her life. It was a hot day, and the sun beat down on the man’s head. The sweat poured off his brow as he walked along the dusty road. It was probably mid- to late-July when the temperature could be over 100 degrees. To make matters worse, he had been traveling with his friends since sunrise. Now the sun was directly overhead. They were hurrying to make their way through this part of the country as quickly as possible.

He came to a well with a rock ledge built up above the ground in the typical manner of the Middle East. As he sat down on the lip of the well, the thought came: “If only I could have a drink of water.” At precisely that moment, the woman came along. It wasn’t the normal time, and it was unusual for a woman to come to a well alone. But this woman was different. The woman isn’t looking for Jesus. All she wants is water. But Jesus is looking for her. You have to go to Samaria if you want to reach Samaritans. He doesn’t avoid Samaria, and he doesn’t hurry through it. Though she does not know it, this woman has a “divine appointment” with the Son of God. She came alone to the well at noon. This was potentially dangerous and somewhat unusual.

This encounter by the well was for this woman a turning point. Everyone who comes to Jesus, deserves a turning point, may you experience one today in the mighty name of Jesus. Four things in this whole story are quite important. First of all, Jesus broke custom to talk to her. He will do the same to change your life, if you will submit to His dealings. Secondly, He spent time with her, He is more committed to reaching you beyond your imagination, you are important to Him. Thirdly, Jesus knew her past but didn’t hold it against her. Jesus will not use your past to determine your future if you allow your past to be past. Finally, Jesus gently led her to a brand-new life. That is exactly what He wants to do with your life today if you will let Him. Selah!

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John. 4:13-14.

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” John. 7:37-38.
