“like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment],” 1 Peter. 2:2. Amp.
Watchman Nee tells about a new convert who came in deep distress to see him. "No matter how much I pray, no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot seem to be faithful to my Lord. I think I'm losing my salvation." Nee said, "Do you see this dog here? He is my dog. He is house-trained; he never makes a mess; he is obedient; he is a pure delight to me. Out in the kitchen I have a son, a baby son. He makes a mess, he throws his food around, he fouls his clothes, he is a total mess. But who is going to inherit my kingdom? Not my dog; my son is my heir. You are Jesus Christ's heir because it is for you that He died."
We are Christ's heirs, not through our perfection but by means of His grace. However we are expected to grow up as quickly as possible to become matured sons who no longer make a mess. Spiritual growth and maturity is not bequeathed to the saints as inheritance, no you must have the desire to grow. Our text says you must long, desire the sincere milk of the word to grow thereby. To cultivate a deeper spiritual desire, focus on engaging in spiritual practices like prayer and meditation, and actively pursuing spiritual growth through practicing gratitude, meditating on scriptures, and serving others are also effective ways to ignite a desire for deeper depth in God.
As a young and growing believer, your spiritual growth is essential for overcoming sin. When you prioritize your relationship with God and seek to grow in faith, you are better equipped to resist temptation and live a more righteous life. Sin can hinder spiritual growth, and the Bible emphasizes the importance of actively pursuing God and surrendering to Him to experience freedom from sin. You must avail yourself of the various means of grace. Practice accountability with godly people, don't keep things that lure you into sin. Increase your intake of the word of God and prayers, then you will experience an unusual surge of God's power that helps you practice continuous righteousness.
