“for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Cor. 6:20. NLT.
A very rich man was determined to give his mother a birthday present that would outshine all others. He read of a bird that had a vocabulary of 4000 words, could speak in numerous languages and could sing so well. He determined such a peculiar gift should be his birthday surprise to his Mum. He immediately bought the bird for $50,000 and had it delivered to his mother. Out of excitement and satisfaction, he called the next day to enquire about the bird. His excitement was however short-lived. He asked the Mum "What did you think of the bird I sent you yesterday?" She replied, "It was quite delicious." This rich young man also fainted. He was indeed caught unawares. She ate it, because she didn't know the value of the bird.
It's often said, “when the value of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.” In the context of this story this statement is so true. To accurately value something, you need to consider the price that was paid to purchase that thing, and the purpose of such a thing. The bird was quite expensive because it was an unusual bird that is meant to be a pet and a companion. She ate it, never knowing the value. How many so-called Christians go about life, not recognising the accurate value that God has placed upon them by shedding his blood for their redemption. They live life without a sense of purpose and destiny. You are worth so much, you must know this and value it.
Living your life with an accurate sense of value means understanding and acting in accordance with God's word and promises towards you. You only must live for and do what truly matters to you and your destiny in God. You must align your choices with the core beliefs and principles as enshrined in God's word. This is not about being religious but about being intentional and principled. It must involve identifying your values which must be godly values by the way, defining them clearly so that you are not ambiguous, and then integrating them into your daily life. That is the basic way to honour God with your life seeing that you were bought with such an expensive price. You must live for Jesus and nothing else. Selah!
