“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Prov. 3:5-8.
Pastor D.L. Moody had a keen memory for names and faces. If one of his children was missing from Sunday school, he knew it, and he would do everything possible to find out why. One day he saw an absentee coming down the street, so he took off after her. She ran down the sidewalk, across the street, and through an alley into a saloon, up the stairs to a back apartment, into the bedroom, and then dived under the bed. Moody went after her, and just as he laid hands on her, the mother showed up. Panting from the exertion, Moody simply explained, "I'm Pastor Moody," He said that he had missed the girl and would be happy if all the family could come to the services. Within a few weeks he had every child in the family in his church.
Commitment is a significant subject in the Bible, such that many people rose and fell on the scripture with it or without it. We cannot emphasise the importance of staying true to our promises and dedicating ourselves fully to God and His teachings. From the commitment to following God’s commandments to the steadfast loyalty shown in relationships, the Bible provides numerous examples and teachings that highlight the value of commitment in our lives. For me Ruth stands tall amongst characters in the bible who exemplified the radical and uncommon determination towards staying true to your persuasion and promise. God expects us as believers to learn from her. She is a bright and shining example of what it means to be committed to a good and godly course.
Commitment must amongst other things involve dedicating your actions and plans to God. By committing your ways to the Lord, you align your desires with His will, ensuring that your endeavors are not just self-driven but divinely guided. When you trust God with your goals, He directs your steps and provides the wisdom and resources necessary for success. Commitment to God and his word must highlight the principle that true success is not just about achieving personal ambitions but about fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. It must be borne out of deep trust in His sovereignty and timing, acknowledging that His plans for you are far greater than your own. By surrendering your plans to Him, we find peace and assurance, knowing that He is in control and that He will lead you to the best possible outcome.
