“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
James 1:12.
Everybody recognizes that Ludwig van Beethoven was a musical genius. He is one of the most revered figures in the history of Western music; his works rank among the most performed of the classical music. But few realize the adversity he had to overcome to achieve greatness. In his twenties, Beethoven began to lose his hearing. Because he couldn't feel the music as he once had, on one occasion he said his fingers became "thick." His hearing problems haunted him into the middle years of his life, but he kept it a guarded secret. By the time he reached his fifties, Beethoven was completely deaf. But he refused to give up. He was once overheard shouting at the top of his voice, "I will take life by the throat!" Many of his biographers believe the only reason Beethoven remained productive for so long was this determination.
If you lack anything in life please don't lack determination. Let it be your perfect companion as you journey through life. Determination is about staying focused on a goal. And as long as you have a goal, you can create paths to that goal, moving ever closer to the success you want. These two don't agree; winners never quit and quitters never win. This axiom may seem trite, but just because it’s been used a lot doesn’t mean it’s not true. Whether you call it determination, grit, or old-fashioned hard work, the will to keep going is a vital component of success. Everyone who ever amounted to anything worthwhile had to one time or the other embrace this old fashion quality called determination.
You may run into obstacles on your path to your destination in life. You push through them or you blaze a new path. That’s the thing about determination; it helps you keep going regardless of what’s put in front of you. With determination, failure is just a diversion. It’s not the end. You may need to let the past guide you, but never let it consume you. The mistakes of yesterday should be lessons, not reasons for despair and frustration. It will always start with believing in Yourself. You are in control of your life under God. Even in the most difficult moments, you still get to decide what to do. Believe in your ability to reach your goals. Never be caught being jealous of others, if you do, their success will slow you down. Instead of resenting what others achieve, see it as something to celebrate. After all, it doesn't stop you from achieving yours, too, if you stay focused and positive.
