“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  Matt. 6:33.

Having a packed schedule in the 21st century may seem like the ideal life. Still, we can and must slow down. Start by taking an honest assessment of how you use your time. When you put God first, spending time with Him in daily prayer and Bible study, the other aspects of your life falls into place. You’ll be more focused on what’s really important in life. After your relationship with God, other top priorities are your work, your marriage if you have one and of course family—including your church family. You no doubt make time for what you value most,

If you truly value contact with God through prayer, study, reflection and occasional fasting, then you will make time for these things in your life. If you truly value contact with family and service to God, your rightful spending of your time demonstrates such. While many in iur society value busyness, productivity and climbing the career ladder above all else, Christians cannot put these things above their commitments to God. You must seek balance in your life. It helps you to maintain your focus on the most important priorities.

And even during the week it’s helpful to set aside time when nothing is planned, to relax, unwind or ponder. You will function much better when you have rest built into your schedules. Jesus Himself provides a model for rest. During His earthly ministry, He occasionally escaped the busyness of the crowds to renew His strength. He encouraged the disciples to do the same, inviting them to “rest a while” after returning from a long journey. Mark 6:31. Also important is to cut back on activities that are unnecessary or time-wasters. You don’t have to say “yes” to every invitation, request or opportunity that comes your way—even if they’re constructive endeavors.
