“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Eph. 4:22-24.

Charles Spurgeon once made a parable. He said,m: There was once a tyrant who summoned one of his subjects into his presence, and ordered him to make a chain. The poor blacksmith—that was his occupation—had to go to work and forge the chain. When it was done, he brought it into the presence of the tyrant, and was ordered to take it away and make it twice the length. He brought it again to the tyrant, and again he was ordered to double it. Back he came when he had obeyed the order, and the tyrant looked at it, and then commanded the servants to bind the man hand and foot with the chain he had made and cast him into prison.

“That is what the devil does with men,” Mr. Spurgeon said. “He makes them forge their own chain, and then binds them hand and foot with it, and casts them into outer darkness.” My friends, that is just what drunkards, gamblers, blasphemers—that is just what every sinner is doing. But thank God, we can tell them of a deliverer. The Son of God has power to break every one of their fetters if they will only come to Him.

Breaking negative habits often feels impossible through sheer willpower, but biblical principles offer a pathway to freedom through spiritual transformation and divine empowerment. Lasting change begins in the mind. Rather than just focusing on behaviour, you must change the way you think, allowing God’s truth to replace the lies that fuel negative habits. Moreover, it's important you realise and admit that breaking addiction requires surrendering your struggle to God and intentionally resisting temptation and embracing His finished work and being willing to do whatever scriptures teach for your own benefit.

You do not have to overcome it alone. When you feel weak or tempted, you can lean on Christ to provide the strength you lack. Overcoming bad habits involves replacing negative behaviours with new, godly actions. It's an established fact that, if you destroy bad habits without replacing them with a good habit you may end up doing more harm than good. If you desire bro quit fleshy lust, you just embrace the life of the Spirit. Walking by the Spirit means aligning your daily actions with God's will to overcome fleshly cravings. Daily study of the scriptures powers your resistance to those negative cravings to sin. Daily intimate prayers will help fire your passion for righteousness and commitment towards consistent godliness. Selah!

DECLARATION:

Dear Abba Father, ai thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Father, I come to You recognizing that I have slipped into habits that do not honour You. I ask for Your strength to overcome any negative habit, I break every chain of bondage in my life. Lord, renew my mind, reactions, and desires. Help me to walk according to Your Word and not my fleshly desires. When I am tempted, block the path and help me to say 'no'. I choose to replace this behaviour with prayer, self-control, and discipline. I thank You that Your mercy is new every morning, and that I can walk in victory through You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen."
