“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place, and there He prayed. 36 And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You." Mark 1:35-37.

Technology advances have played a vital role in resources that have enhanced our quality of life, but technology has also become a significant distraction that can keep us from what is important. This news clip from ABC News talks about “inattentional blindness,” a scientific term for the distraction caused by things like texting, playing games on our phones or watching tik tok etc. It can be easy to become distracted from praying effectively, sharing the Gospel or ministering to others because of self-consciousness, worry, or even—you guessed it—our phones or tablets! Now I ask you, what has been your main distraction in being or doing all the Lord has called you to be?

Our ability to focus has decreased greatly, due to the constant options we have and the hustle of life. I guess the biggest mistake we make when trying to increase our productivity is not actually knowing what exactly is that thing that distracts us the most. This suggests that we all need to do an audit of our lives to know exactly what has stolen our attention the most. I know a major culprit nowadays is social media. I however need you to know that there are others that hide and surreptitiously rob you of quality time and life that matters. Some of this distraction often goes unnoticed, because they don't just steal your time, they rob your soul. When your life is constantly hurried, when we’re torn in too many directions, pursuing too many things, you end up achieving things, but wrecking your soul.

When you begin to identify what the distractions are in your life, you can overcome them by creating habits and rhythms to get you on a path of efficiency and clear thinking. What would it look like to be free of distractions? How could the quality of your life improve, spiritually and otherwise? How can you free up time for your home, marriage, spirituality etc. What more could you do with your life if distractions are no longer holding you back? It's time to create new habits that would set you for success. Set yourself up for a win by taking back your time. We only have a certain amount of hours in the day. Let’s not let them be stolen away by tan enemy called distraction.
