“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matt. 5:14.

A man of God told a story about his friend who visited a lighthouse recently. A lighthouse is a tower or type of structure designed to shine bright light often situated at dangerous or important coastal locations. They serve as crucial navigational aids, warning ships of hazardous areas, during maritime navigation. This man visited the lighthouse and he said to the keeper, “Are you not afraid to live here? It is a dreadful place to be in constantly.” “No,” replied the man, “I am not afraid; we never think of ourselves here.” “Never think of yourselves! How is that?”

The reply was a good one: “We know that we are perfectly safe, and only think of having our lamps brightly burning, and keeping the reflectors clear, so that those in danger may be saved.”

Believers are called to be a lighthouse—a consistent, visible beacon of truth and hope in a dark generation, reflecting the light of Christ to a world confused by sin and despair. Remaining a lighthouse is not a suggestion, but a crucial responsibility for guiding souls through treacherous spiritual waters. Just as a physical lighthouse warns ships away from rocks on the high sea, believers must expose the dangers of sin, such as immorality and deception. By living righteous, holy lives, believers indirectly expose darkness and help guide the spiritually blinded toward the safety of the gospel. We must reflect the true light of Jesus in a hopeless generation. The world is full of fear and anxiety, often described as "sitting in darkness". Believers are called to reflect the light of Jesus into this darkness, serving as a beacon of hope and comfort to those in despair.

To fulfill the divine mandate of being "Salt and Light" Jesus declared in our text that believers are the light of the world, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. This is not merely an action, but an identity that defines the purpose of a Christian’s existence—to glorify the Father through good works. To demonstrate the transformative power of God’s Word. In an age where truth is often subjective or ignored, believers must remain firm in the faith. By walking as children of light and holding firmly to the Word of Life, they prove that God’s Word is still effective at transforming lives and changing atmospheres. It's our responsibility to convert darkness into light by our testimonies and examples. A persistent, shining witness points the way to repentance, opening the eyes of the lost so they may turn from the power of Satan to God, receiving forgiveness and salvation. Selah!

DECLARATION:

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Father, use me as a beacon of light to the people around me: Let me be full of the light of Your presence at all times. Let my life be a lighthouse, guiding others to You. Use me to bring hope and direction to those in need. Don't let me shine so others can see me, rather like me shine so that through me, others can see You and serve you in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen."
