“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.” Prov. 13;20-21.

One day a farmer got so tired of the encroachment of the Crow birds in his farm. They have constituted so much pain and trouble that, he decided to kill them. He grabbed his shotgun to shoot at a flock of crow birds.  Unfortunately, he didn’t see his own very dear parrot that had joined the crows. After firing a few shots, he walked over to the fallen birds and was surprised to find his parrot badly injured with a broken wing. When the farmer’s children saw the injured bird, they asked, “Dad, what happened?” The farmer simply replied, “Bad company.”

The people we hang out with have a tendency to rub off on us. We become like those we spend time with. In fact, many experts will tell you that there is a “rule” that each of us is the average of our 5 closest friends. What they mean is that generally speaking we become like the people we associate with the most. If the 5 people you spend the most time with are of a certain general income level, it is very likely you will be too. If our friends are chronically spending more than they earn and have problems with debt, then we likely do likewise

In our story, the Farmer didn’t know his Parrot was amongst the crows eating up his grains, when he shot randomly at them, his Parrot turns out to be one of the victims, because he has accompanied with crows. He that walks with the wise shall be wise and the friend of fools shall be destroyed. So says our text. Be selective about the choice of your friends. Don’t team up with those who scorn at God’s word and wonder why, your spiritual life is in Jeopardy. Be sincere and yield yourself to commitment to spiritual discipline.

Choose your team, choose your task.
