Claiming The Promises Of God.

"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us." 1 John 5:14.

A wealthy businessman passed away and left back  a blank, signed check in an envelope to a trusted but struggling friend. The struggling friend kept the envelope tucked away in a drawer for years because he wasn't so detailed a fellow. He was continually stressing over his debts and working himself to exhaustion. It wasn't until years later, when he was on the verge of bankruptcy, that he opened the envelope. He realized he had immediate access to all the wealth he could ever need; he just had to fill in the amount. As fantastic as this may seem, God has given believers a Bible full of "signed cheques" (over 3,000 precious promises). These include promises of peace, provision, strength, and salvation. Too often, Christians live in spiritual poverty or defeat simply because they leave these promises "in the drawer." 

Claiming the promises means filling out the "cheque" with your specific need and cashing it through prayer. Claiming a promise isn't about demanding your own desires; it is about reminding God of His covenant. When you face anxiety, sickness, or financial hardship, take the exact verse that addresses the situation and pray it back to Him. Claiming the promises of God must also involve aligning your faith, actions, and prayers with His written Word. You cannot claim what you do not know. Begin by studying the scriptures to find specific promises that relate to your situation, understanding that God’s Word is your ultimate guarantee. When you present God with His promises, you must believe that He is both willing and able to perform them. Faith turns a general desire into a specific spiritual petition. Many of God’s promises are conditional. Fulfilling your end of the covenant, such as obedience, forgiveness, or seeking His kingdom first, is required to see the promise manifest in your life. 

There is often a waiting period between claiming a promise and its fulfillment. You must remain steadfast and not give up when facing delays or obstacles. Your words carry spiritual weight. Align your confessions with God's truth rather than your current circumstances to reinforce your faith and push back against doubt. Fear and unbelief are the primary enemies of answered prayer. You must actively replace anxiety and negative thoughts with the peace and assurance found in God's presence. It's important that you know that cultivating the right attitude is not optional if you must walk in the promises and take possession of all there is in God for you. Keep your faith focused on God and His word, keep your attention on doing what is right even when the circumstances seem to suggest otherwise. Don't forget that all things are working together for your good in every situation. Selah!
