“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Eph. 4:2-6.
A story was told about the famous American inventor Samuel Finley Morse 1791 – April 2, 1872. Who was once asked if he ever encountered situations where he didn’t know what to do. Morse responded, “More than once, and whenever I could not see my way clearly, I knelt down and prayed to God for light and understanding.” Morse received many honours from his invention of the telegraph but felt undeserving: “I have made a valuable application of electricity not because I was superior to other men but solely because God, who meant it for mankind, must reveal it to someone and He was pleased to reveal it to me.”
He had an attitude that is very important for those who want to go far with God and for God. He didn't arrogate anything to himself, nor did he see himself as a superstar. Rather, he felt like necessity has placed the privilege upon him to bring about the invention which God used him for. Humility still remains a virtue we must all pursue and cultivate. Scripture emphasizes the importance of humility, teaching that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, and that humility leads to wisdom and honour. We must as a matter of urgency embrace the lifestyle of humility for our own wellbeing. God is the first and main adversary of a proud man. He surely has God to contend with. You wouldn't want to live life dealing with God as your adversary.
True humility must involve an accurate perception of oneself, acknowledging limitations and mistakes, and prioritizing others' needs, fostering empathy and connection while avoiding arrogance and self-importance. Humility allows you to connect with others on a deeper level, understanding and caring for their feelings and experiences. Humility is about being less self-centered and more attuned to the needs and perspectives of others. Humility is demonstrated through acts of service, putting others' needs before your own. Humility fosters empathy and compassion, leading to more positive and meaningful relationships. Humble people are often better at handling stress and difficult situations than the proud and self conceited. Research suggests that humility can contribute to better physical and mental wellbeing, a good reason why you should cultivate humility today. Selah!
