“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter. 3:18.
Spiritual growth is synonymous with being spiritually alive. Lack of growth or stunted growth is a proof of certain debilitating spiritual conditions. Growing in grace implies growing in the knowledge and nurture of God, by coming into deeper understanding of spiritual realities and workings. Immaturity points to lack of spiritual mastery of divine truth and their realities, it is definitely intolerable. It is God’s purpose that you grow into full stature and become mature in Christ. It would be against the law of God and nature if you were to remain a baby and thus become a spiritual dwarf. Our text is really talking about steady development, constant engagement with spiritual values enough to increase your wisdom, knowledge and experience in spirituality.
For one to grow properly in grace, certain commitments must be observed for good spiritual health. Daily Reading Of The Word: Do not be content to skim through a chapter merely to satisfy your conscience. Hide the Word of God in your heart. It comforts you, guides you, corrects and encourages you in the walk and works of righteousness – all you need and will ever need is embedded in the Word, get acquainted with it. Learn The Secret Of Prayers: Prayer is basically fellowship, that is having so much in common with one another that you are part of the same community. You could say that, as Believers, when we pray, we are Sharing fellowship, becoming more intimate and we are letting go our natural passion and we are becoming more like God.
Attend Church Regularly: The visible church is Christ’s body upon the earth. Christians need one another, we need to gather together to worship God and nothing can take the place of church attendance. Some of us have gradually become nominal christians, our lifestyle and church attendance has dwindled drastically. You cannot justify it before God. There is eternal and intrinsic value in our church attendance beyond giving tithe and offering as some think. We are growing in the grace which is in Christ Jesus, readily available in his word, but unleashed on us as we share fellowship with each other as believers. It’s my prayers that God will awaken everyone of us to that which is His will and purpose for our days and time in Jesus name.
