“that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Col. 1:10.
“Gambling is inevitable.” That was the conclusion of a special report made about the menace of gambling in America. No matter what is said or done by advocates or opponents of gambling in all its various forms, it is an activity which is practised, or endorsed, by a substantial majority of people. Most people like to gamble now and again, and there are others who don’t care whether you gamble or not, all they want to hear is that you won. The real concern is people who gamble generally live their lives like a gamble. They live life like a game of chance, hoping that by happenstance in the sweat by and by they may hit it big.
God designed life to be live by principles made available through His word. We are not left in the dark as to how we should live. We are encouraged in our text to walk worthy of the Lord. To walk, often refers to the daily conduct of one’s life. God has ordained that His children should “walk” in good works, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. The word worthy has the idea of “matching up” our actions should match our words, and our outward presentation should match our inward convictions. To “walk worthy” therefore means to live up to expectations and the standard that has been set by God’s word.
God frowns at people who gamble with His words and His love. We are supposed to keep serving God always either in bad times or in good times. Keep trusting in God and focus on what He only can do. There are many things that money cannot buy which God has made available to us. Money cannot buy peace of mind, money cannot buy sound health. It is the blessing of the LORD that makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it. You must not gamble with God because you will lose. Yield Yourself to His words, adhere to his instructions. He will lift you up in due season. Amen.
