Don't Look Back.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb. 12:1.

In 1930, two men named James B. Hargis and Charles Creighton decided to drive their Ford roadster from New York City to Los Angeles. Ideally, such a drive should take about 42 hours, but guess what they decided to entirely do such a journey in reverse. They locked the car in reverse, averaged only 10 miles per hour, and took 42 days, overcoming accidents and obstacles to reach their destination. It was no doubt such a great feat. They are about the first to have attained such a goal. The main challenge here is that too many people live their lives in reverse, obsessed with past failures or clinging to past victories. True goal attainment requires looking forward, not backward. God wants us to pursue the future He has for us, not the past. 

An archer aiming for a target does not focus on the bow, the wind, or the bystanders; they focus entirely on the center of the target. Apostle Paul described this in Phil. 3:13-14 as "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead." 

Achieving goals requires "hyper-focus." When distractions arise, or when the goal seems too far away, we must fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer of our faith, and refuse to be diverted by minor obstacles or detours. Don't live your life distracted by unimportant mundane pursuit, you must be a hyper focused believer. Keep your eyes on the goal, don't take it off, until you attain it.

Nehemiah had a clear, God-given goal to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. He faced ridicule, threats, and exhaustion. His response was to keep building with one hand and holding a weapon in the other (Neh. 4:17). As a believer, you don't quit or forsake your God ordained goals because you are faced with opposition. Your God-ordained goal will always face opposition. Sanballat and Tobias withstood Nehemiah, but he proved to be equal to the task. He prevailed against them. Determination to succeed means refusing to stop, even when external forces try to discourage you. Nehemiah’s success came from a blend of prayer, planning, and perseverance. This same formula is what I recommend that you use to attain your goals. You must pray as if you will never work, you must plan so deliberately and spend your energy in perseverance, you will attain your goal. selah!
