Don't Lose The Wonder Of Christmas.

“For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (the Messiah).” Luke. 2:11.

It's Christmas, While we go about with the festivities, let’s make sure we don’t make the same mistake that a lady called Thelma Pearl Howard, an American housekeeper made. She  missed out on enjoying a fortune because she didn’t look carefully enough at her Christmas gifts. Her employer was Walt Disney. Disney gave her a piece of paper in an envelope every Christmas and her birthdays as gifts. Thelma didn’t understand what it was, so she added it to a pile under her bed, meanwhile, it was shares in his movie studio as Christmas and birthday gifts, which she never sold. After her death her relatives discovered the documents and realised they were shares in the Disney Corporation, which was worth between nine to thirty million dollars. For whatever reasons she never enjoyed this fortune. Her estate was divided equally between her son and the foundation created for her, the Thelma Pearl Howard Foundation.

Scholars disagree as to the exact date of Christ’s birth. Nor the exact house and specific house where he was born in Bethlehem.  Nor can any of us comprehend how by the Holy Spirit, a virgin could conceive a child. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to know when, where or how Jesus was born; you just need to know why He was born. One writer put it like this: If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist.

If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer.

But our greatest need is forgiveness and so God sent us a Saviour! 

The wise men gave gifts to Jesus at Christmas, and at Christmas God gave to us the best gift we will ever get because… it is the most costly gift you’ll ever receive; it’s the only gift that lasts forever; and it is the gift you can enjoy for the rest of your life. That is God coming down in human flesh. You must take advantage of your own gift. This gift can be passed on from generation to generation of Christ tarries but don't lose touch with the gift of God. In our generation, Christmas seems to be losing its essence, many prefer the excitement and hustle and bustle as against the reality of God sending us a Saviour, who has come to save us from our sins. Don't do Christmas with sin, when Christ came to take away your sin. Selah!

Open our eyes, ears, and heart to the true meaning of Christmas. Bring us true salvation from sin and unholy living, bring us lasting peace and serenity. May our lives from henceforth, embody the love and the values of God in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
