“nor give place to the devil.” Eph. 4:27.

A preacher once told a story, an American boxer and early Hollywood actor, Norman “Kid” McCoy.

In 1896, he was the welterweight boxing champion. In one of his fights, he learned that his opponent was deaf. McCoy finally discovered this; and as they were nearing the end of the third round, McCoy stepped back and pointed to his opponent’s corner indicating that the bell had rung. When his opponent turned his head to confirm, McCoy unloaded a powerful blow and knocked him out. It was clearly not fair, but it was very effective. Satan does not play fair and temptation never delivers what it promises. Do yourself the honour of never negotiating with the devil.

The saying "don't negotiate with the devil" warns against making deals or compromises that could jeopardize your spiritual well-being or moral integrity in pursuit of worldly gains. It emphasizes that the cost of such bargains may be eternal damnation or other undesirable consequences. Judas negotiated with the devil, he never lived to tell us his disappointment. Satan fights dirty, he never abides or plays by the rules. He is a perpetual law breaker, never make yourself available for his manipulations.

The devil works in cycles. He attacks and pulls back. He hits you and then he shifts around to the other side. This could be disorienting, but you can anticipate his moves. You can predict the seasons of his attack. You will remember what happened to Jesus at the end of his time of temptation in the wilderness. After he had overcome every temptation, “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him” Matt. 4:11. In other words, the forty-day attack was over. There would be more battles later, it's your responsibility to ensure you are not caught unawares, and not left disadvantaged. Your portion is worth fighting for, never negotiate, what the Lord has called yours
