“This is what the Lord says: Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose confidence is in Him. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out its roots by the river. It shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaves shall be evergreen; it shall have no worries in the year of drought, neither shall it cease to bear fruit.” Jer. 17:7-8.
I remembered making a trip out of Lagos some time ago, and my fuel was so depleted and I delayed refuelling because I felt I could do it the next morning. Unfortunately by the next day fuel scarcity hit the country. I had to run almost on an empty tank until I could get a black marketeer to sell some little for me to get me back to Lagos. The amazing fact is many christian are already running low and depleted in spiritual energy. Sit down, I need to talk to you. You can’t run this your life now like you did before that didn’t profit you. I know most of the time as believers we blame the devil for everything that didn’t go as planned for us, but you know that, you are already depleted even though you have the chance and opportunity to refuel like I had but you didn’t do it. The destiny of every believer is to be like a tree planted by the rivers of water flourishing in every season.
We ought to be living upon the inexhaustible resources and riches of Christ in this drought-stricken wilderness of a world! What a promise! What a possibility! How we need to enter into the reality of these words in experience in these darkening days. But you can’t walk in this reality if the oil of your life is stale. What you need is renewal. The foolish virgins were having oil, their shut coming was that they ran on half a tank. They didn’t have enough to sustain the flow. Don’t continue your spiritual journey the same way you did it last year, that would be a recipe for failure.
You are never available for prayer, never available for bible study, you attend church services only when it is very convenient, your giving has to be compelled. You must adjust, you can’t run your life that way anymore. That for me is a recipe for defeat. I call it running your life on an empty tank. What else do you want God to do for you? Spiritual laziness can only be dealt with when you admit it. It’s time to wake up from your spiritual recklessness, slumber and announce to the devil that you will never permit a sluggish spiritual walk with the Lord this time anymore. You will pray as at when due, study the Bible, attend services and give to the course of the kingdom and consistently manifest the values that befits a believer that you are. May you never be found wanting in Jesus’ name.

I drink from the river of refreshing that flows from Your word and Your presence. I’m fired up to conquer and fulfil my destiny this year in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
