"They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart." Eph. 4:18.
George Bernard Shaw, was an Irish playwright, critic, political activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. Born 26 July 1856, died: 2 Nov 1950. Shaw was indeed a vocal critic of organized religion throughout his life, frequently attacking the Christian church, established doctrines, and theological dogma in his plays, prefaces, and essays. While he claimed to be an atheist at age 10, he later described himself more as a "mystic". George Bernard Shaw is perhaps most renowned as a free thinker and liberal philosopher. In his last writings we read: The science to which I pinned my faith is bankrupt. Its counsels, which should have established the millennium, led, instead, directly to the suicide of Europe. I believed them once. In their name I helped to destroy the faith of millions of worshippers in the temples of a thousand creeds. And now they look at me and witness the great tragedy of an atheist who has lost his faith.
A faithless life—one lived without trust in God or obedience to His word—is portrayed in Scripture as fundamentally bankrupt, resulting in ultimate emptiness, purposelessness, and spiritual poverty. Without faith, life is described as vanity, meaning all Labour and achievements are ultimately fleeting and meaningless. The Inability of material wealth to give lasting pleasurable satisfaction humanity is really a major burden we should work at unraveling. Your achievements cannot satisfy the human soul, leading to a perpetual, unsatisfied hunger. That's why the richest and most popular are not always the happiest. Neither are the poorest the saddest set of people. It takes living out God's purpose according to God's will in the bible to find lasting happiness.
A life without the accurate knowledge of God, without a working and living relationship with Jesus is characterized by a lack of hope and a disconnection from the covenant promises of God. Our generation has basically rejected God, this leads to darkened conscience and understanding, where people become callous, selfish, and unable to perceive spiritual truth. We all need God's grace to be able to live in accordance with How word. Without God's grace, everyone is spiritually broke, incapable of earning righteousness, and unable to pay their own sin debt. Trusting in one's own understanding rather than in God leads to inevitable ruin and spiritual death. A faithless life focuses only on the temporary, forfeiting the eternal, lasting treasures that come from serving God. May you never be found to be bankrupt of godliness, left with regrets after spending a lifetime pursuing the ephemeral and flinty pleasure. Amen.
