“Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water. She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink.” — Gen. 21:19.

Kenyon Wilson, a professor at the University of Tennessee, wanted to test whether any of his students fully read the syllabus for his music seminar. Of the more than 70 students enrolled in the class, none apparently did. Wilson said he knows this because on the second page of the three-page syllabus he included the location and combination to a locker, inside of which was a $50 cash prize. He had clearly written there that If you are reading this, there’s a cash prize money waiting for you in the locker, here is the secret code to unlock it.

But when the semester ended on December 8, students went home and the cash was unclaimed. Wilson wrote on Facebook “My semester-long experiment has come to an end. Today I retrieved the unclaimed treasure. Could it be that many of us are living our lives not knowing that there are treasures buried around us waiting for us to claim them? Hagar wandered aimlessly in the wilderness . Her water ran out. She hid her son behind a bush so she didn’t have to see him die. And she cried. We are sometimes hopeless and visionless like Hagar, unknown to her just around the corner there is a well of water waiting to be discovered. It took God for her to find this out.

For those who have accepted Jesus and have believed in him, the Bible says, “..But we have this treasure…” Yes, some people in the world today have the treasure of light and understanding.  It shines brightly within them.  They are able to walk in this light and not stumble. They are also able to help guide others.  Their lives are producing a spiritual fruit because the light of Life is shining upon them. We must now start living with the consciousness that all we need to live the ideal life is available, if we will diligently study the manual of life. If the students in our story studied the manual, they would have found the gift, but they were all depending on their teacher to do everything for them, so they missed the gift. It's time to get up and take advantage of the privilege of knowing the Lord, you have unclaimed treasure, her up and claim it.
