“So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.” 1 Sam. 30:3-4.

You know everyone has one story or the other to tell, even the people who seem to smile all the time. Some people who look so well-adjusted and happy that you think they don’t have a care in the world. But they do. If you work with people long enough, you will discover that even the “perfect” people know all about sorrow, heartache and disappointments. Ranging from a tale of sadness or of failure. A story of a broken marriage, of a child with an incurable disease, of alcohol abuse, of crushing financial disaster, of loved ones far from God, of dreams dashed on the rocks of the sad reality called life.

Many believers have secretly given up on God because they feel he has wounded them and can no longer be trusted. Others grimly hold on to faith because they have nowhere else to turn. To all those people, God says, “I am still here and I care about you and I have loved you with an everlasting love.” All of us comes to a breaking point sooner or later. But the truth is that God has not abandoned you. You may have come to those moments that change the course of your life, So many things can happen so quickly. Some could be bad news from a phone call, others could be good news about what you have been waiting for.

When you face a critical point, God has given you the keys and wisdom to save yourself. Winning or losing is a mental game. Other people can provide support, but the game is played inside your mind. Your emotional reaction is everything — you need to build a first responder’s mindset. What is a first responder mindset, the mindset of a problem solver, not a victim. The mindset of boldness wnd willingness to quickly do all you van to see the problem solved. David was hit by a tragedy. He wept until there was no more strength to weep, but he didn’t remain there, he stepped up and found a solution to the challenge. He prayed, he sorth the face of God. He stood up, pursued, overtook them and recovered. That is what a first responder will do. They are in the vanguard of problem solving, not the type who sit and sulk, leaking wounds and complaining about how unfair life has been to them. Be a first responder. Hallelujah!
