“Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Gen. 2:18.

The Michelangelo Effect is a term that psychologists use to describe how two people in a healthy relationship help each other become the best version of themselves. The name comes from the great artist Michelangelo, who said that when he sculpted, he didn’t create something new—he simply chipped away the excess marble to reveal the figure that was already inside. In marriage, intentional pursuit works the same way. When you actively encourage, support, and believe in your spouse, you’re helping “chip away” the doubts, fears, and insecurities that hide the masterpiece God placed in them. Over time, your words, actions, and love help reveal more and more of who they were created to be. But here’s the key—this doesn’t happen by accident.

Michelangelo didn’t just glance at a block of marble and hope it turned into David. He worked at it—patiently, purposefully, and with vision. In the same way, a husband or wife who is “dating for life” continues to study their spouse, listen to their dreams, speak life into their hearts, and invest in their growth. When you pursue your spouse with that kind of intentionality, you’re not just keeping romance alive—you’re shaping something beautiful, one loving act at a time. I like to particularly speak to the married and those intending to marry either soon or later, marriage is only sweet when you understand the right principles and put them in place. You must pursue marriage with purpose, your spouse is not your slave or your mere breadwinner, your spouse is your partner in progress and you must with purpose and wisdom work together to achieve results.

If you lack patience and you are not willing and ready to cultivate patience, then please listen to my advice, don't get married. Marriage is ruined by impatience. Like a sculptor, you must patiently the salvation of your marriage with patience, godly fear and trembling. Unfortunately, some came into marriage without a vision. Their only vision was to be married, for what they don't know, how to attain their potential in marriage they also don't know and are not humble enough to seek godly counsel on how to make it work. This is the reason for the proliferation of divorce in our society today. God's mind in marriage for a couple who are growing in the knowledge of God and the knowledge of each other. Working according to principles that enhance their betterment in all things. Selah!

“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Col. 3:18.

“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” 1 Peter. 3:7.

DECLARATION:

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, I come before You, asking for Your divine grace to fill my life and my marriage, and for the wisdom to build it on a foundation of love and mutual respect.  Lord, grant me the patience to endure difficult times, to wait on Your timing, and to be quick to forgive. Help me to be a source of peace, rather than frustration, and to speak words of life that heal rather than harm. Bestow upon us Your wisdom to make right decisions, both small and life-changing. Help us to catch the 'little foxes'—the distractions and unresolved issues that ruin our peace in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
