Heaven On My Mind.

"Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God." Col. 3:1.

A wealthy tourist visited a famous missionary living in a very poor, remote village. The tourist was shocked to see the missionary lived in a tiny, one-room hut with only a bed, a desk, and a few books. Being a man who had lived in opulence, he was really taken aback, so he asked the Missionary. "Where is your furniture?" The missionary smiled and replied, "Where is yours?" The tourist laughed at such a question, wondering if he didn't understand that he was just touring. He smiled and responded to the Missionary  "I'm just passing through! I'm a tourist. Mine is at home." The missionary nodded gently and said, "So am I. My home is in heaven, my furniture is there too."

Thinking about heaven while living on earth is essential for a balanced and purposeful life. When we focus only on the present world, we tend to chase temporary treasures like money and status. Jesus warned that our hearts follow our treasures, and earthly things will eventually fade or be destroyed. Worrying about daily needs, bills, and the future often happens when we forget our eternal home. Remembering that God cares for us and has prepared a glorious eternity helps us let go of worldly stress.

Believers are meant to be temporary residents on earth. If we do not look forward to heaven, we become too comfortable with the sinful patterns of the world and lose our spiritual focus. Our present actions and sufferings have eternal value. Keeping heaven in mind gives us the endurance needed to serve others and remain faithful, knowing that God rewards us in the afterlife. The Bible teaches that Jesus will return unexpectedly. If we are caught up only in the affairs of this life, we risk being spiritually lazy and unprepared for His second coming. We must start living with the consciousness of His second coming. Selah!

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, please help me to balance this heavenly vision with my daily life on earth. Do not let me become so distracted by the noise and worries of this world that I forget the people around me. Instead, make me practically useful. Give me the grace to be a vessel of love, kindness, and practical help to my family, my community, and everyone I meet, keep me worthy of heaven in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
