Laying Up Treasures In Heaven.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy... But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven." Matt. 6:19-20.

A famous American author popularly known as Mark Twain lived between 1835–1910), he once famously but ignobly said concerning heaven and hell. “Each place has its own advantages - I would rather take heaven for the climate, and hell for society.” Why did he say that? Because popular culture has painted a ridiculous, cartoonish picture of heaven: floating on a boring cloud in a white robe, playing a monotonous harp for a trillion years with nothing to do. If heaven sounds like an endless, boring church service in slow motion, nobody is going to long for it. That is not the biblical presentation of heaven. Until you have an Ideal relationship with the Lord, heaven may just remain a mirage. We think less of heaven when we swallow a secular caricature instead of the biblical reality.

Modern men often focus heavily on wealth, career success, and material possessions. They chase financial security and luxury instead of eternal treasures. This heavy focus on earthly riches blinds them to the glory of heaven. Jesus warned against this dangerous trap. Modern culture promotes instant gratification and physical pleasure above all else. Men get caught up in entertainment, digital media, and sensory comfort. When the present moment feels good, eternity loses its appeal. The Bible explains this spiritual danger clearly. Living comfortably in daily sin dulls the human conscience over time. When men walk away from God’s moral standards, they stop wanting to think about meeting a holy Creator. Heaven implies final judgment and accountability, which makes unrepentant hearts deeply uncomfortable.

Life today moves at a very fast and exhausting pace. Smartphones, social media, and endless work demands fill every single waking minute. Men rarely find quiet moments to think deeply about God or the afterlife. Silence is gone, and with it goes heavenly contemplation. Scripture calls believers to step away from the noise. Modern society relies heavily on science and things people can touch or measure. Because nobody can put heaven under a laboratory microscope, secular culture treats the afterlife like a myth. Men absorb this skeptical mindset and stop believing in unseen spiritual realms. Heaven is real and awaits all who  in such a manner as to keep their attention on it. We may not have a complete picture of what heaven may look like, but of course, it will be fun for as many as I live in such a way as to get there. Selah!

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, Forgive me for the times I have chased after temporary things, for allowing my heart to be consumed by the pursuit of the mundane only. Align my desires with Your heart. Remind me daily that where my treasure is, there my heart will be also. Let my heart be anchored firmly in heaven, fixed on Jesus, rather than tangled up in the temporary securities of this world in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
