“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James. 4:7.
A story was told of an old Scottish woman who went from home to home across the countryside selling household items. When she comes to a crossroad, she would toss a stick into the air and go in the direction the stick pointed when it landed. One day, however, she was seen tossing the stick up several times. Without making a choice. Those who know her based of the principle of following the direction her stick points were confused. “Why do you toss the stick more than once?” someone asked. “Because,” replied the woman, “it keeps pointing to the left, and I want to take the road on the right.” She then dutifully kept throwing the stick into the air until it pointed the way she wanted to go.
One would have thought she always goes to the direction the sticks pointed not knowing she only obeyed because it fits into what she already has in mind. Many Christians are like that, they know the will of God but refuse to do it because it is not the direction they have made up their mind to follow. I know that Surrendering to God’s will is not easy. It means we have to relinquish control and trust that He is working all things good for His glory in our lives. But we must learn the mystery of letting go and letting God.
The secret is, go to God and tell him about your struggles, let Him know what you feel and how you’re struggling with surrendering to His will. He has called us to lay it before Him. Ask God to help you trust in Him deeply and surrender to His will. Praying “your will be done” acknowledges God’s sovereignty over everything. Through prayer, you will learn how to surrender to God completely. “But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. When we call on God, He responds to us. God longs to hold us and comfort us. Therefore, we can hand over our worries with confidence believing He will keep in perfect peace those whose heart are stayed on Him. Selah!
