“And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.  So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.” 1 Kings. 17:4-5.

God told Elijah to go and hide himself by the brook Cherith on the east side of the Jordan, he also promised to send ravens to feed him. I have no doubt that the prophet was not exactly thrilled with that promise. It’s hard enough to have to hide yourself in a desolate region. But to trust your feeding in the hands of ravens is something too hard for me to grasp. If it has to be birds, why not Eagles? The whole thing is unusual because ravens normally are unclean scavenger birds. Just what quantity of food can a raven bring, how many where they, how long will it take them to bring enough per day or per meal for Elijah’s consumption.

It must have been a fearsome sight to see these enormous black birds swooping in with bread and meat in their beaks. But they did not come by chance nor did they fly from a nearby cave. God sent them, God commanded them, God directed them, and thus they came to the prophet’s aid. Let me pause to ask a question. How much food does it take to sustain you, or perhaps your family each week? but God knows the exact amount because he keeps track of what we need. He knows your name and he knows your address and He knows what you need today and He knows what you will need tomorrow. Heaven will not go broke, if your needs are met. You just must learn how to surrender your needs to the supernatural hands of God.

God knows what you need, He knows when you need it and the exact quantity. He will make sure you have it as at when due. He doesn’t have to send a raven to you today? He sent down Manna from heaven to feed Israel. He sent angels in another instance to minister to Elijah. God is the God of variety and diversity. He said in Isa. 1:19 ““If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the best of the land.” The key here is willingness and obedience. Your needs would not make have go bankrupt, but your attitude has to be in place and your life has to be that of total yieldedness, then you will watch God take care of you, selah!
