”And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith.” Phil. 1:25.
The great evangelist George Whitefield was relating the difficulties of the gospel ministry to some friends. He said that he was weary of the burdens and was glad that his work would soon be over and that he would depart this earthly scene to be with Christ. The others admitted having similar feelings, all except one, a Mr. Tennant. Noting this, Whitefield tapped him on the knee and said, “Well, Brother Tennant, you are the oldest among us; do you not rejoice to think that your time is so near at hand when you will be called home?” The old man answered bluntly that he had no wish for it. When pressed for something more definite, he added, “I have nothing to do with death. My business is to live as long as I can, and as well as I can, and serve my Savior as faithfully as I can, until He thinks it’s time to call me home.” Whitefield accepted that word as a gentle rebuke from the Lord, and it helped him go on with his work calmly and patiently.
Living for Jesus and the gospel is a journey that combines profound joy with intentional commitment. The foundation of a joyful life in Christ is a supreme, heartfelt love for Him, placing Him above all other priorities, relationships, and pursuits. This love transforms obedience from a burdensome duty into a delight.
True commitment involves denying oneself, taking up the cross, and yielding to Christ’s lordship over personal desires, appetites, and worldly ambitions. This surrender is not loss, but the pathway to finding true life and peace.
Believers are called to serve God and others with gladness, seeing their time, talents, and resources as tools for advancing the Gospel. This service—whether small acts of kindness or large commitments—fuels a lasting joy that transcends daily circumstances. Daily engagement with Scripture and consistent prayer are essential to know God’s heart and will, which protects believers from deception and strengthens their faith. This connection enables believers to live out the truth rather than just hearing it. This principle means living in a way that is "worthy" of the gospel, aligning one's daily life, integrity, and character with the message of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Living for Jesus involves actively sharing the gospel and reflecting His love to the world, letting one’s actions and words point others to Christ. Selah!

DECLARATION:
Dear Abba Father, I thank you for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Holy Spirit, it is easy to lose focus and be deceived. Keep me from placing my attention on secondary issues. Strengthen me to take up my cross and follow Jesus. Make me zealous for good works and increasingly transform into the image of Your Son. Help me to bear much fruit for Your Name and to bring You glory, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
