"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Josh. 1:9.

The Prussian king Frederick the Great was widely known as an agnostic, who didn't believe in the existence of God. By contrast, General Von Zealand, one of his most trusted officers, was a devout Christian. Thus it was that during a festive gathering the king began making crude jokes about Christ until everyone was rocking with laughter--all but Von Zealand, that is. Finally, he arose and addressed the king: "Sire, you know I have not feared death. I have fought and won 38 battles for you. I am an old man; I shall soon have to go into the presence of One greater than you, the mighty God who saved me from my sin, the Lord Jesus Christ whom you are blaspheming. I salute you, sire, as an old man who loves his Saviour, on the edge of eternity." The place went silent, and with a trembling voice the king replied, "General Von Zealand--I beg your pardon! I beg your pardon!" With such courage and apologies from the King the party quietly ended.

As believers we are all called to courageous living. Cowards die many times, as believers we die once. Don't live like a coward. Courageous living requires a foundation of faith, intentionality, and reliance on divine strength. Courage begins by recognizing that you are never alone in your trials. True fearlessness is not the absence of fear, but the assurance that God walks alongside you in every battle. When you internalize this reality, intimidation loses its power over your mind. Living courageously demands strict custody over your thoughts and emotional reactions. Fear thrives on worst-case scenarios, but spiritual fortitude is built by intentionally focusing on truth, honour, and purity. Filtering your thoughts prevents anxiety from paralyzing your actions. We have not been called to timidity, but to be bold and fearless. "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." — 2 Tim. 1:7.

The manner of life you have been called to live requires an unshakeable conviction that remains steady when circumstances shift. This means planting your feet firmly in your beliefs, remaining alert to spiritual dangers, and acting with mature decisiveness. Faith provides the stability needed to endure external pressures. A courageous life cannot be lived while constantly seeking human approval or fearing human rejection. True freedom comes from prioritizing divine directives over public opinion and social pressure. Trusting in a higher power provides a secure shield that human threats cannot penetrate. Courageous living is active, requiring you to move forward even when the future seems uncertain or risky. Taking bold steps of obedience honours your calling and activates divine intervention on your behalf. Action defeats hesitation, transforming abstract faith into tangible reality.
