“Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth away from Him] or away from home [and with Him], we are constantly ambitious and strive earnestly to be pleasing to Him.” 2 Cor. 5:9. Amp.
The constant aim of everyone who really knows the Lord should be to be well-pleasing to Him. Could anyone, anywhere, have a greater ambition than this? Is it your ambition to please Him? For here, surely, is the secret of successful living. There is nothing greater than living day by day a life which is well-pleasing to the Lord. All down the ages there have been men and women whose supreme ambition has been to please God. Most people today are bent upon pleasing themselves but there are those who are seeking to fulfil God’s conditions of a life that is well-pleasing to Him.
If so, we must dedicate our lives to Him. Notice, Rom. 12:1 says ” I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” the words, “holy and acceptable to God”. Means separation from sinful and doubtful things, and the dedication of ourselves to the Lord alone. Have you ever presented your body to the Lord? Have you handed over to Him the “parts” of your body Romans 6:13 – your hands, feet, eyes, ears, lips…in other words – yourself? You must do that once again.
We must become good witnesses. God has put us in trust with the gospel, and what a sacred trust it is! The gospel is for everybody, and our whole business is to make it known. Believers who witness to the Lord’s grace and power, by lives which are consistent and by lips which are ready to speak for Him, are well-pleasing to the Lord. It must become our ambition to witness his ways and his words by our lifestyle first of all and by our words and preaching secondarily. Now you must understand why the Bible says in John. 6:27 “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” We must make this our ambition.
