“And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.” Num. 21:8-9.

Life is a gift from God. We often take it for granted until something happens to threaten our enjoyment of life. Whenever our comfort is disturbed we murmur and complain, we blame God and those he has put to lead us. We completely forget about all he has done for us previously. God allowed a plague of fiery serpents to invade the camp of the Israelites after they murmured against Him and Moses. They despised the manna God provided for them and longed for the delights of Egypt. Like Lot’s wife, they looked back after their deliverance. A major plague broke out in the camp, and people died enmass.

They however repented, after many had died from the plague and God provided a solution by asking Moses to erect a high pole and set a fiery serpent made of brass on it. Whoever looked upon the fiery, brass serpent when bitten will be healed and live. God did not take the source of their pain away as the serpents remained in their camp. They only had to look up and live. God is still saying the same thing to us today. You need to quit complaining, quit rebellion, stop disobedience. It’s time to look up and live.

Living by faith is looking unto Jesus. We can’t please God without faith, faith has become God’s requirement for attaining perfection. The Israelites were thought this in the wilderness. We don’t have to wait till we are bitten by serpents to embrace faith. You must look to Jesus now to live. In him we live, move and have our being. Looking to Jesus means relying on him. We must focus our gaze on his word and lifestyle in the Bible. Jesus, becomes our encouragement in this race, both as our example and as our help. In looking to Jesus, he becomes more than enough to meet your needs and satisfy the desires of your heart.
