Make God Your First Priority.

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Heb. 11:5.

Gen. William Nelson, a Union general in the American Civil War. He was killed in one of the battles in Kentucky when he ended up being shot, mortally, in the chest. He had faced many battles, but the fatal blow came while he was relaxing with his men. As such, he was caught fully unprepared. As men ran up the stairs to help him, the general had just one request, "Send for a clergyman; I wish to be baptized." He never had time as an adolescent or young man. He never had time as a private or after he became a general to prepare for eternity. He prepared for every other thing except for eternity. He was a general in the US army, but a nobody before God 

You know what, his wound did not stop or slow down the war. Everything around him was left virtually unchanged. Nothing stopped because of him. The only thing that changed was his priorities. With only a few minutes left before he entered eternity, the one thing he cared about was preparing for eternity. He wanted to be led to Christ and baptized. You may wonder why he waited this long,  it starts with misplaced priorities as well as a sense of importance. With that bullet hitting his chest, all his connections, rank, certificate didn't matter to him anymore. Don't wait for God to remind you how flinty life could be. Set your priority right today. Don't wait until it's too late. Thirty minutes after this great general was shot, he died. 

Don't procrastinate concerning your eternal destiny. To procrastinate means to put off intentionally to a future time. You know you are supposed to do something, but you don’t do it. Then you get into a habit of procrastinating, and the Lord holds you responsible for that. If you are contaminated with procrastination, you have to get that poison out of your system. You must stop your procrastination because the Lord is coming only for those who please Him. The Bible and our text tells us that Enoch pleased God, and the Lord took him to Heaven alive. If you do not have salvation today, the Lord does not promise that you will get it tomorrow because by tomorrow you may be gone; and the Lord will never make a promise He cannot keep. Make up your mind to do all within your strength today to make God your priority. Selah!

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, I submit my thoughts and heart's desires to You. Reshape my thinking and let it be aligned with Your Word. Give me the strength to overcome the temptations of the world and the sinful ways of friends that might pull me away from You. Help me to simplify my life so that my main goal becomes loving You with my whole heart, soul, and strength. Remind me that my life is not too busy for You and that true peace and joy come from worshipping and being filled with Your presence in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
