Make The Most Of Opportunity.

*making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Eph. 5:16. NIV 

There is an old story about a sculptor who was creating a new, unique statue. A curious passerby asked what the statue represented. "This is the statue of Opportunity," the sculptor replied. The observer looked closely and remarked, "It’s a very strange statue. Why is there a long dreadlock of hair in the front head but the back of the head is completely bald?" the artist replied, "it's because opportunity is easy to grab as it approaches you. You can seize it by its hair. But once it has passed, it cannot be caught. The back of the head is bald."

The observer went round the sculpture and observed it thoroughly. "Why," the observer asked again, "are there wings on the feet?" "Because," the artist replied, "opportunity is  fleeting, it can fly away at any time. It doesn’t stick around; it moves fast." And finally, the observer asked, "what is that long, broken rock at the base of the image?"

"Ah," said the sculptor, "that is the hardest lesson. Many people see opportunity coming, but they are too afraid, too lazy, or too comfortable to act. They let it pass, and when they finally try to chase it down, they stumble and fall over their own excuses, leaving them with nothing but the broken fragments of what could have been."

The bible no doubt urges every believer to make the most of every opportunity because "the days are evil". This involves actively "buying back" time from unproductive, sinful, or indifferent habits to focus on God-given tasks. It requires recognizing that time is a precious and a very limited gift. It becomes so necessary to take intentional action about whatever thing you are designed to have interaction with today rather than procrastinating. Making the most of opportunities requires hard work and proactive effort, meanwhile too many believers would rather embrace laziness than hard work. Taking advantage of opportunities requires being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and ready to act when God opens doors, despite inevitable opposition. This means maintaining a "prepared" state of heart and mind, which allows you to recognize opportunities when they arise. selah!
