Fri. April. 12th. 2024.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” 2 Peter. 3:18.

The Sunday School teacher addressed the class: “Children, who knocked down the wall of Jericho?” No one answered, so she called on Billy. “Billy, tell me who knocked down the wall of Jericho?” Billy replied, “trust me ma’am I didn’t do it and I don’t know who did.” The teacher became very angry and marched Billy right out the classroom door to the Sunday School superintendent. “Mrs. Archer, Billy refuses to tell me who broke down the wall of Jericho. I think he should be disciplined.” The Sunday School superintendent replied, “Don’t worry. I am sure he didn’t bring down the wall, it must have fallen by itself, we will see how much it will cause to be repaired. Besides, we can take money out of the endowment fund to replace it.” the Sunday school teacher almost collapsed!.

Biblical illiteracy is a big problem today. I’ve heard people call it a famine. A famine of knowing the Bible. During a famine people waste away for lack of sustenance. Some people die. Those who remain need nourishment; they need to be revived. And if they have any hope of remaining alive over time, their life situation has to change in a conspicuous way. Christians used to be known as “people of one book.” Sure, they read, studied and shared other books. But the book they cared about more than all others combined was the Bible. They memorised it, meditated on it, talked about it and taught it to others. We don’t do that anymore, and in a very real sense we’re starving ourselves to death.

These days many of us don’t even know basic facts about the Bible. Christians who lack biblical knowledge are the products of churches and pastors that place too little value on biblical knowledge. Paul’s words to Timothy are as valuable today as ever: “Give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” 1 Tim. 4:13.  We must make up our minds to quit just attending church to be blessed rather we must become those who pursue true knowledge of divine will and divine knowledge. We must become committed to attendance of all services and paying attention to bible study growing in our faith, grace and divine favour. This is what we have been called to do. God bless you.
