Relentless Pursuit.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Col. 3:23.

As a young boy working as an apprentice for a Christian shoemaker, HA Ironside had to pound wet cowhide leather continually with a heavy hammer so the soles would be hard and dry before adding gum to seal and nail them on.a shoe sole. A nearby competitor and shoe maker skipped this exhausting step, nailing wet leather with gum straight onto shoes so customers would return faster for repairs because they often wouldn't last. When young Harry asked his boss if they were wasting time, hammering theirs dry, they could do the same thing like their competitor. His employer opened the Bible to Col. 3:23 and said: “Harry, I do not make shoes just for the money. I'm doing it for the glory of God. If at the judgment seat of Christ I should have to view every shoe I've ever made, I don't want to hear the Lord say... 'You didn't do your best.” 

No doubt God expects you to be truly dedicated to anything your hands find to do whether spiritual or secular. To be dedicated to whatever your hands find to do means to approach every task, career, and daily responsibility with spiritual intentionality, excellence, and unwavering commitment. Yes, you must carry out every ordinary or invisible act of service with excellence as if working directly for Christ. It transforms ordinary labour into an act of profound worship. A believer understands that they do not work merely for human recognition, financial gain, or corporate promotion. Instead, every task is executed as a direct service to God.

A dedicated believer strives for mastery and continuous improvement in their craft. Laziness and mediocrity dishonour the Creator, while diligence reflects His excellent nature. Committing to high standards catches the attention of leadership and creates opportunities for advancement. God uses professional skill and refined talents as a vehicle to elevate His people into positions of significant influence. Great callings are always built on the foundation of ordinary, everyday faithfulness. Dedication means treating minor, unnoticed responsibilities with the same gravity as high-profile assignments. God observes how a believer handles small resources, entry-level jobs, and hidden duties before trusting them with larger spiritual or material wealth.

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, I come before You today to ask for the grace of diligence and thoroughness in all my work. Help me to see every task, big or small, as an opportunity to serve and honour You. Remove distractions and laziness from my mind. Give me the strength to start my work with enthusiasm and finish it with care. Teach me to pay attention to details and not rush through my responsibilities. Let my work reflect Your excellence and order in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
