Standing On The Word Of God.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the famous 19th-century preacher known as the “Prince of Preachers,” once made a striking observation about Scripture. When asked how he defended the Bible against critics, Spurgeon replied, “Defend the Bible? Can you defend a Lion, all you need to do is to turn it loose and it will defend itself.” With that single line, Spurgeon captured the raw, unstoppable power of God’s Word. A lion doesn’t need to be propped up, explained to death, or protected behind a cage. Its strength is not in arguments or apologies, its strength is in what it is. Spurgeon knew this from experience. Week after week, he preached to thousands in London, not with gimmicks or theatrics, but by simply proclaiming Scripture. And it worked. Lives were changed, skeptics were converted, and entire communities were stirred. Not because Spurgeon was clever, but because the Bible is alive.

I’m sure you heard that last statement, the Bible is alive! We are not trying to make it alive, it was it up from the dead, whatever semblance of life found in us as believers stem from the practice of the Word. The Bible doesn’t only shape those who preach or teach it. It speaks to the common man in the street, the wicked man out there, the politician, the hypocrete and the doubters. When the Word of God is absorbed into the imagination and allowed deep rooted access into the heart mind, it can restore and point even the most disoriented heart toward eternity.

Many so-called believers struggle with yielding and walking in accordance with God's word. To quit the struggle you must examine your motives for hearing the word. Identify why you are reading God's word. Are you doing it out of a sense of obligation, to feel righteous, or purely for knowledge? A sincere desire to know God and follow His will can transform the experience from a chore into a meaningful connection. Shifting your focus from merely reading a book to actively seeking a relationship can provide renewed purpose. You must acknowledge your human limitations and depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and understanding. The Bible teaches that the Spirit helps in our weakness and intercedes for us when we don't know how to pray or understand the text. When you struggle, pray for discernment and ask the Spirit to reveal the meaning and application of the scriptures to your life. We will continue on this subject tomorrow! Selah!

I ask that You open my eyes to see the treasures within Your Word and open my heart to understand Your precepts. Lord, help me not to just read Your Word, but to dwell in it, meditating on Your wondrous works day and night. I pray for the wisdom to apply these truths to my daily decisions and the humility to walk in obedience to Your counsel in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
