Standing On The Word. Part Two.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12.
Voltaire was born in Paris, France in 1694. As a philosopher, historian and free thinker, he became a most influential and prolific writer during what has been called the Age of Enlightenment. He vehemently opposed the Christian faith and wrote many rather scoffing works expressing his disdain for the faith and the Bible. In 1764 he wrote, “The Bible; that is what fools have written, what imbeciles commend, what rogues teach and young children are made to learn by heart”. Voltaire, in his voluminous writings against Christianity and the Bible, predicted in 1776, “One hundred years from my day, there will not be a Bible on earth except one left back in a museum by a curiosity-seeker.” Through an ironic twist of Providence, the very house in which he once lived and wrote some of the dastard articles about the bible and Christianity was used by the Evangelical Society of Geneva as a storehouse for Bibles and Gospel tracts.
The bible is no doubt God's word, every other book informs you, only the bible transforms you. Now you can take that to the bank. From yesterday's devotional, we laid a foundation for my emphasis today. Jesus who is the Word personified didn’t argue with Satan or rely on clever reasoning when Satan came calling. He wielded Scripture like a sword — precise, authoritative, unshakable. What’s striking is that each of the verses He quoted came from a section of the Bible many overlook — the book of Deuteronomy. He didn’t reach for flashy miracles or fresh revelations. He reached for the written Word, trusted, memorized, and internalized. Jesus’ victory over Satan in the wilderness shows us that Scripture is not just information to be stored. It’s spiritual armor. When temptation comes. It takes the man who has stored up the Word to be able to stand on it to conquer the devil.
Standing on the Word of God, is not Just about merely quoting scripture to address your circumstances. As important as this may be, many do so without faith and so don't produce any result. Standing on the Word means maintaining unwavering faith in God's promises regardless of circumstances, thoughts, or feelings. It involves actively reading, meditating on, and speaking Scripture, trusting in God’s authority over personal feelings. Key actions include confessing promises aloud, praying persistently, and refusing to fear. It's so important that you refuse to fear and to cower before the adversary. Do not compromise on what God has revealed, even if it is costly to your comfort or friendships, choose to stand on His Word. Selah!
