Start Setting Goals Not Limits.

“Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light…” Ps. 37:4-6.

John Maxwell states: Goals not only help you develop initial motivation by making your dreams obtainable, but they also help you continue to be motivated – and that creates momentum. Once you get going on the success journey, it will be very hard to stop you. It’s similar to what happens with a train. Getting it started is the toughest part of the trip. While standing still, a train can be prevented from moving forward by one-inch blocks of wood under each of the locomotive’s drive wheels. However, once a train gets up to speed, not even a steel-reinforced concrete wall five feet thick can stop it. In essence your goals are not just catalysts, they are also sustainers of whatever desires stirred up within you.

However, setting from a biblical perspective is not about selfish ambition, but about aligning one’s life with God’s purpose to bring Him glory. Biblical goals are characterized by submission to God’s will, diligence, and trust. Goals help translate God’s calling into action, preventing a believer from wandering aimlessly. Scripture encourages using gifts and talents to perform the "good works which God prepared in advance" Eph. 2:10, meaning specific goals help fulfill that divine purpose. Godly goals are also designed to conform believers to the likeness of Christ, rather than just checking off a to-do list. Pursuing goals requires faith, patience, and perseverance, which refine character—the only thing a person takes with them into eternity.

Setting big, God-honouring goals stretches a believer's faith because they must depend on divine power to achieve them. It fosters a "partnership" with God, where the believer plans with humility, acknowledging that "the Lord determines his success. Goals are essential for maximizing the limited time given on earth. They help in being "wise, making the most of every opportunity" Eph. 5:16-17. They also  ensure that life is not wasted but used to bring glory to God. Selah!
