*Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1 Peter. 5:8-9.

Satan the devil is the enemy of God and of humanity. He is hateful and evil. But God does not leave us defenceless. He tells us to resist Satan with faith that the all-powerful Creator God will back us up. James adds: “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” James 4:7-8. By submitting to God and drawing close to Him, you  will have His protection, and Satan won’t be able to destroy you. But if you wander off from God, like a lone ranger straying from the protection, you will be an easy prey for Satan, who roves around like a roaring lion.

Until the time when Satan would be  locked away, you must constantly be alert and aware of Satan’s deceptive and alluring tactics. You  must use the armour of God to defend yourself against Satan’s attacks.  You must continually resist him. To resist means to withstand, strive against, or oppose in some manner. Resistance can be a defensive manoeuvre on your part, such as resisting or withstanding the temptation to sin Or it can be an action you take to use the only offensive weapon in the full armour of God. Eph. 6:13-18), the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.

Using the Scriptures to expose Satan’s lies and temptations is the most effective way to strive against and defeat him. Resisting the devil must start with submitting to God. A disobedient or unsubmissive believer will not see victory. As a christian, you must realise that to every reality of the presence of the devil, there is a corresponding reality of the presence of God. As you strive to stand firm in your faith, you must realise that the enemies you are up against are not merely human ideas, but real forces that come from the powers of darkness. You must however stand in your liberty and never be entangled by the yoke of bondage. When you embrace fear and walk in ignorance your faith is deflated, Victory is postponed, but when you stand firm in faith, victory is yours, selah!
