The Path Of Wisdom.

“Wisdom cries out in the street; she raises her voice in the public squares.” Prov. 1:20.

A proud young man, an aspiring scholar, approached the philosopher Socrates and asked to be taught. The young man spoke endlessly, listing all his accomplishments and boasting about the knowledge and wisdom he already possessed. Socrates listened patiently all the while as the young man continued to reel out his seemingly achievements. So Socrates then said to the young man, "I cannot teach you anything. You are so full of your own self and  ideas that there is no room inside you for any wisdom." We cannot receive God’s wisdom if our minds are already full of our own self-importance. Overcoming a cocky, prideful spirit requires a deliberate, daily shift from self-reliance to a teachable heart.

Pride creates a false sense of invincibility and security, blinding you to your own flaws. When you think you know everything, you stop learning. Recognizing the destructive nature of arrogance is the first step toward genuine wisdom. If you don't  understand this reality, genuine wisdom is far away from you. Humility is the foundation of wisdom. Arrogance closes your heart to instruction, while a humble mind remains perpetually open to God's guidance and the insights of others. It is easy to become overconfident in your own intellect and intuition. True wisdom requires surrendering your limited perspective to God’s infinite understanding, submitting your plans to His direction. You can successfully submit to God, if you are not willing to submit to the men God has placed over you.

Cockiness often makes you reject advice. However, wisdom is found in community. By seeking input from mentors, trusted friends, and experts, you acknowledge that you cannot navigate life perfectly on your own. Arrogance is deeply offensive to God because it exalts human achievement above His grace. To receive God’s wisdom and favour, you must drop the self-sufficient facade and accept the unmerited grace He offers the humble. Wisdom is a dynamic, lifelong pursuit. No matter how much you know or achieve, a wise person always seeks to increase their learning and insight when instruction is offered. Overcoming cockiness requires a daily, deliberate decision to treat humility as a core part of your character. It is an inward strength that allows you to respect authority and learn from correction. I want to hear Your voice above the clamour of confusion. Grant me the grace to break free from foolishness and to humbly embrace the correction, instruction, and truth that Your wisdom brings. I do not just want to hear Your wisdom; I want to walk in it. When I stand at a crossroads, give me the clear discernment to know exactly what to do and the courage to take the right step in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
