“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.” psa. 27:4.

Staying focused on God in today’s ever changing world is not easy. Life happens so fast in the 21st Century that if your cell phone is 12 months old it’s out of date! It becomes a herculean task to be focused both physically, mentally and spiritually. I must personally confess I don’t think most people christians inclusive chose to be distracted. I think the real issue is that they didn’t choose to be focused. Being focused is not optional, it must become our pursuit and driving force if we will ever be able to stay on course and fulfil our destiny before God. One of the reasons why we can’t seem to get focused or stay focused long enough these days is because of the intensified tactics of Satan. No doubt Satan is unleashed upon this generation in all manner of ways to keep us distracted.

The devil does not want us diving deeper into the Word. He does not want us drawing closer to God. He does not want us growing stronger in our faith to counteract his fiery darts of doubt, fear, insecurity, and sense of lack. And he definitely does not want us to know the plans or promises of God, which are written in Scripture. And he for sure, doesn’t want us living out the word and obeying it. In other words he brings distractions. Distraction is something that turns your attention away from something you want to concentrate on. And this is exactly what Satan wants for us. Satan loves distracted Christians. He just wants to turn our attention away from the things of God.

As Christians, we must be careful what we are giving our attention to. What we give our attention to is what we are being discipled by. Paul reminds us in Rom. 12:2 that as Christians we are called to “not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” In a world full of distraction, it is easy to be conformed to this age. We need to pay attention to the voices we are letting speak into our lives. And here’s why: We become what we behold. What absorbs our interest, what we give our attention to most, shapes our thinking and fills our hearts. Where we spend our time will shape our life. What we watch will change the way we see the world. What we listen to will change the way we speak about others. What we read will change the way we think about issues. So as Christians, we must make sure we are spending more time in God’s Word and in prayer than listening, watching, and reading the voices around us. Selah!
