The Power Of Prudence.

"A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." Prov. 22:3.

There was this very great king over a large kingdom. He had three daughters, and he had become quite depressed over time. The king asked his three daughters how much they loved him. The older two gave extravagant answers about loving him more than gold and silver. He loved such a response.  The youngest, known as  Mary, said she loved him "like salt." The king was furious, thinking this was a sign of disrespect. Later, the clever cook overheard the king's frustration. The next morning, the cook served the king a magnificent breakfast, but deliberately withheld all salt from the food. The food was entirely tasteless, and the king finally realized that without salt the simple, unglamorous necessity nothing else had value. Maybe you now understand why the scripture likens the believer to the salt of the earth. It takes prudence to understand this. Prudence teaches us to look past superficial, flashy promises ("more than gold") and recognize the true, enduring value of things.

We are called into a life not just knowing and wisdom but prudence. The prudence I speak of is spiritual wisdom applied to everyday choices. It enables believers to discern the best course of action according to God's will. It gives you as a believer the discernment needed to test every information that comes to you rather than blindly believing everything you hear. In fact the scripture admonished that we test every spirit, the truth is that you can't test if you lack prudence. A prudent believer foresees the spiritual, moral, or physical consequences of an action and takes steps to avoid ruin. Prudence restrains the tongue, helping believers avoid arguments, gossip, and the regret of speaking rashly.

A prudent person controls their emotions and tempers their responses when provoked or insulted by others. You must learn how to use your words judiciously such that you are not wasteful or getting yourself into trouble by your choice of words. It determines how you manage your time, talents, and finances carefully, ensuring you don't become bankrupt or get into unnecessary troubles. Prudence keeps you spiritually alert, prepared, and focused on Christ’s return rather than worldly distractions. Prudence ensures that as a believer you align your daily choices with God's ultimate purpose and eternal destiny. Prudence is a necessity for every believer, just like salt is a necessity for every food, you must desire, pray and ensure you practice the use of prudence in your daily walk as a believer. Selah!

Dear Abba Father, I thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of salvation. Lord, grant me the gift of true prudence. Give me the grace to pause, reflect, and seek Your direction before making decisions, rather than relying on my own understanding or reacting to my impulses. Open my eyes to see the consequences of my choices, and grant me the discipline to choose the path of integrity, even when it is difficult. Give me a discerning mind to navigate relationships, finances, and my daily responsibilities with foresight and sound judgment in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
