“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” Eph. 5:18.

Speaking to a large audience, God’s servant D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, “How can I get the air out of this glass?” One man shouted, “Suck it out with a pump!” Moody replied, “That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass.” After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass with water. “There,” he said, “all the air is now removed.” He then went on to explain that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by “sucking out a sin here and there,” but by being filled with the Holy Spirit.

God does not suck out sin, He fills you up with His Holy Spirit who in turn permeates the who of your being such that you will find no room for sin anymore. However the Holy Spirit doesn’t Lord Himself over you, He will rather Lord through you. Meaning He seeks your permission and acceptance to be able to achieve any fit in you. When the day of pentecost was fully come, it was only those who were in the upper room that He sat upon. They were those who gave Him the permission to fill them and use them.

When you finally release yourself to the operation of the Holy Spirit, He is capable of empowering your natural abilities and improving upon them for a special task or purpose. This explains how God is capable of accomplishing his work through your average, ordinary, and even rejected members of society, which I’m personally thankful for. For example, Peter and John, two of the most important men in church history, were considered “unschooled, ordinary men” (Acts 4:13), yet God powerfully worked through their lives. He can achieve the same with you, if you allow Him to fill you to the overflow today. My prayer therefore is that He finds you willing and fit for his fullness. You can’t get His fullness until you release your totality. Selah!

Dear Abba Father, thank You, for the seal of the Holy Spirit on my life, His deposit in my heart that testifies that I am truly Yours. But today Father I come asking for more. Fill me afresh, with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Whatever it takes, Lord, fill me with the Holy Spirit and any gifting you would be pleased to give me. Let there be no room in my life for the flesh and its dictates. Bring me to the depth of Your dealings where I can no longer argue or dictate for You Lord, amen.
