“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter. 2:9.

At one point or the other, we’ve all sized-up our lives based on what we watch on TV, read in magazines, or see on Facebook. We want to be able to point to something very tangible and reliable so to say that determines our worth, and demonstrates our success and significance in the world. So we will strive to have the best wardrobe, the biggest bank account, the nicest house, the newest car and the latest smartphone. But somehow it never seems to be enough.

When your value in life is based on how you compare to others, you will always find yourself looking for the next big thing. But more money, more stuff, and more experiences will not satisfy you because your net worth is not determined by what you earn. Your real worth is determined by whose you are. Yes you heard me righ. Three important things to keep your sense of identity in place.

1. Be wise about what and who you listen to. Just because something is on TV doesn’t mean you have to watch it or believe it. Your worth is not determined by a celebrity.

2. Believe what God says about you. It’s one thing to know something; it’s another to accept that information as true or real. God’s Word can be trusted. Let God’s words sink in and accept them as real. Your physical, mental and spiritual self is determined by what you believe from God’s word.

3. Keep moving forward. Your self-worth isn’t based on your possessions but on who owns you. You can press on not because of what you have, but because Jesus made you worthy. Jesus showed how valuable He considers us to be; He died to save us from our sin and gave us a new life in relationship with Him.
