“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Eph. 2:10.
A Scottish preacher told a story about an eagle that had been captured when it was quite young. The farmer who snared the bird put a restraint on it so it couldn’t fly, and then he turned it loose to roam in the barnyard. It wasn’t long till the eagle began to act like the chickens, scratching and pecking at the ground. This bird that once soared high in the heavens seemed satisfied to live the barnyard life of the lowly hen. One day the farmer was visited by a shepherd who came down from the mountains where the eagles lived. Seeing the eagle, the shepherd said to the farmer, “What a shame to keep that bird hobbled here in your barnyard! Why don’t you let it go?” The farmer agreed, so they cut off the restraint. But the eagle continued to wander around, scratching and pecking as before. The shepherd picked it up and set it on a high stone wall. For the first time in months, the eagle saw the grand expanse of blue sky and the glowing sun. Then it spread its wings and with a leap soared off into a tremendous spiral flight, up and up and up. At last it was acting like an eagle again.
It's so important that you discover your worth as a believer. It involves moving from a worldly, accomplishment-based self-worth to a spiritual, identity-based value that is given by God, fulfilling the purpose you were designed for rather than settling for less. Your fundamental worth is based on being made in the image and likeness of God, not your appearance or achievements. Because you bear His image, you possess an inherent value that surpasses any worldly measure. Every detail about you matters to God, who knitted you together in your mother’s womb. Embracing your uniqueness—rather than comparing yourself to others, reflects God's creativity and honours His design. This is enough reason to wake up everyday looking up to God and taking responsibility to go all out to be all you have been designed to be.
Your worth is defined by what you cost. In case you forgot, as a believer, you are worth the life of Jesus Christ. Because you have been redeemed through His blood, you are valuable and belong to Him, meaning you should honour Him with your life. You are not an accident; you are God’s handiwork (masterpiece) created to do specific good works prepared in advance for you. Discovering your worth enables you to walk in these unique purposes. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you to be adopted into His family, holy and blameless. This assures you that your identity is secure and rooted in His love. God has established plans for your life, plans for welfare, not evil, to give you a future and a hope. Taking advantage of your life means walking in this divine destiny rather than fear. Don't become another restrained Eagle, living like a chicken, it's time to spread your wings and become who you are designed to be. Selah!
