“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John. 10:27.
Two friends were walking along a busy street during the lunch hour, and the streets were filled with people. Cars were honking their horns and the sounds of the city were almost deafening. Suddenly, one of them said, “What an interesting place to hear cricket.” His friend wondered how that could possibly be. “No, I’m sure of it,” his friend said, “I heard a cricket.” The man, who thought he had heard a cricket, listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a shrub. He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket. His friend was utterly amazed.
His friend felt he must be superhuman to achieve such. “No,” said the man who heard the cricket. “My ears are no different from yours. It all depends on what you’re listening for.” “But that can’t be!” said the friend. “I could never hear a cricket in this noise.” Seeing the doubt in his friend’s face. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk. Then, with the noise of the crowded street a couple of people turned to be sure the coin that dropped was not from their pockets. His friend insisted, “See what I mean? It all depends on what’s important to you.” I guess it makes more sense now to him. If the people who turned to check, could hear the sound of a coin drop within such noise, then it depends on what is important to you.
I know we live in a busy and noisy generation. I know we think it’s so impossible to hear God and please him, therefore we have concluded that it’s okay for us to continue with the noise. Now you know. What you hear is determined by what is important to you. If God’s voice is so important, you will pay attention to Him, enough to hear Him speak to you even in this deafening noise of our age. Don’t reduce your attention span because we live in a noisy generation rather increase your desire to hear God and be led by Him. No doubt, His sheep will hear His voice and will not be led astray by the noise of our age. Shalom!
