You Were Made And Bought!

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Cor. 6:20.

Once upon a time, a little boy made a toy sailboat. He carefully carved out every detail in it. Then he fitted it with a mast and sails. When it was finished, he decided to try it on the lake in the city park around his neighbourhood. The boy tied a cord to the front of the boat and set it in the water. The wind caught the sail and the boat sailed away toward the far side and was gone, he couldn’t find it anymore. Try hard as he did, he still couldn’t find it. Several months later, as the little boy was walking through the city streets, he passed a pawnshop. There in the window was his sailboat! It was scratched and dirty, and the sails were torn, but available for sale.

He looked at it very well, it was definitely his lost sail boat! Someone had found the boat and sold it to the pawnshop owner. Now it had a price tag of $2.00 on it. The boy hurried home and gathered up all his money. He hurried back to the shop, and bought the boat. He took it home, cleaned it, and gave it a fresh coat of paint and a new sail. Then as he looked happily at it, he said, “Little boat, you are twice mine. I made you, and I bought you.” The story is a beautiful illustration of what God did for us.

Like the lost but found boat, we are twice Christ’s. He made us for His glory. We were bought with a price for his glory. There is nothing else outside of Christ we can do with our lives that will be worthwhile. We must now begin to live for Him with the whole of our body and our spirit. Living for and by the flesh doesn’t profit God. Believers can think of “the flesh” as the symbol of our humanness, which is of no profit to a true follower of Christ. Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” You must now live for His glory who made you and yet bought you with a price from the pawnshop of sin.
