“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” Eph. 1:18.
Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom from 20 June 1837 until her death in January 1901. Her reign of 63 years and 216 days, which was longer than those of any of her predecessors, constituted the era known as the Victorian era. When Queen Victoria was a child, she didn't know she was in line for the throne of England. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldn't motivate her. She just didn't take her studies seriously. Finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the queen of England. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, "Then I will be good." The realization that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of responsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from then on.
As saints, you and I have inherited a great and secured calling and destiny which no doubt makes our lives so enviable. The realization of this enviable calling should make us all want to quake and tremble at the magnitude of love God has bestowed upon us all such that we have been bequeathed with such great honour and dignity. God wrote us into His will before we took our first breath. In fact, Jesus said that God prepared the inheritance for us before the foundation of the world. Paul explained that as adopted children into God’s family we are joint heirs with Christ. Jesus positioned us in His heavenly family, the family of God to partake of His rich inheritance.
With this inheritance comes great responsibility. You are given an inheritance and then charged with stewarding that inheritance. The tenacity of your hold on the inheritance of God will face some of its greatest tests in the call to love the people you cannot stand. You will be required to live with a sense of dignity and integrity, you can't live the way you want to. There is a need to embrace the complete values of the scriptures and live them out. Else you may become like a man who is placed in honour who doesn't know, he is like a beast that will soon perish. That is not your portion in Jesus name. Selah!
